Young people in
the local community
Introduced
for the first time in 2010 as part of the biennial
Kempston and Biddenham International
Music
Festival piano and voice master classes were held
for local students.
BTH Ltd. was the major sponsor towards the costs
of these which were held in Biddenham Upper
School and
St. James
Church. Several local businesses also made financial
contributions.
Internationally acclaimed Polish pianist
Anna-Maria Stanzyk led the piano masterclass and
renowned English soprano singer Elaine Huckle
the voice masterclass.
Most of the students were from Biddenham School but
the classes also contained students from other schools.
After
overcoming some initial nervousness the young pianists
were soon benefiting from the warm and enthusiastic
help of the master. In the voice class each student
sang a
song of their own choice after which Elaine offered
advice on both their singing and general presentation
and delivery.
In both classes the improvements were clear and gave
both students and the small audience pleasure to
hear.
At the conclusion of the masterclasses
each student
was awarded a certificate of attendance signed by
the artist.
The students were full of praise for the help they
had been given all expressing their desire to take
their
learning forward.
After the events head of music
at Biddenham School Mr. Mark Horton wrote ‘’ Please can
I express my heartfelt thanks to you and your colleagues,
the performers, and the festival as a whole for allowing
us to be involved, for the opportunities offered to us,
and for the level of support and appreciation shown to
the students and our school. It was a real priviledge.’’
Organiser of the masterclasses BTH Chief Executive
Brian Lawson said ‘’ These classes were a unique
and wonderful opportunity for local young people to gain
high quality tuition from world renowned performers.
It was rewarding to witness the students put so much
effort into the sessions and come away with so many ideas
for development. Both artists were generous with their
time and help and deserve special thanks for the sympathetic
way they worked with the students. BTH was proud to help
sponsor this event as part of our role in supporting
the local community.’’
